5 Tips to help you get more out of Skip Hire

5 Tips to help you get more out of Skip Hire

Ordering a skip for the first time can be a daunting concept, but Wigan Skips can guide and advise you to ensure you hire the right skip for your project, effectively saving you time, effort and money.

We aim to accommodate the needs of all customers, so no matter where you are in the northwest, you can rely on us to provide you with a cost-effective solution for waste disposal.

Here are 5 tips to get the most out of your skip hire in Wigan, Bolton, Chorley, Leyland or Preston:

  1. Order the right skip

Our domestic skips start from as small as 2-cubic yards and range up to 16-cubic yards – providing you with ample space to store unwanted items.

The smaller skips are more affordable than the larger skips but don’t be tempted to order the cheapest skip if you expect your project to generate a significant amount of waste. Similarly, ordering a skip that’s too big won’t do you any favours. You won’t be refunded for the space you don’t use.

We suggest hiring a domestic skip that is slightly bigger than you need – making sure you don’t run out of space and that you don’t pay more than you need to.

  1. Know what can and can’t go in skips

Whether you’re looking for skip hire in Bolton or skip hire in Chorley, there are certain do’s and don’ts to be mindful of.

Skips are great for storing:

  • Garden waste
  • Rubble
  • Soil
  • Metal
  • Broken/unwanted furniture

Although it can be only too easy to throw everything in your skip, make sure you keep, tyres, paint, asbestos and other hazardous materials out.

  1. Donate as much as you can

Skip hire in Leyland (and other areas) is ideal for clear outs and renovation projects of all scales, and provides you with a more convenient alternative to transporting waste to the tip yourself. Instead of filling your skip sooner than you anticipated, why not make charitable donations?

Clear outs that throw up toys and clothes that are no longer used or worn can be donated to your local charity shop and furniture that is in perfect condition could be given to family or friends – allowing you to free up space inside your skip and order a smaller one. Ordering a smaller skip will help you to keep your skip hire costs to a minimum.

  1. Prepare for skip hire

When you’ve decided where your skip will be kept, you need to make sure there is plenty of space for your skip to be delivered and for our fleets to manoeuvre safely.

Being prepared will also speed up the process of delivery for our fleet drivers, making their job a whole lot easier and allowing them to position your skip correctly.

  1. Have a loading strategy

To get more out of your skip hire in Preston, Leyland, Chorley, Bolton or Wigan, think about how you’ll load it with waste. Start with light, flat items at the bottom of the skip and flatten these down with heavier, bulkier items.

If you’re storing bin bags in your skip, make sure they are tied tightly so you can squeeze more in without exceeding weight or height restrictions.
